Highveld Horse Care Unit is an established South African equine welfare organisation based in Meyerton, working wherever equines need protection, treatment, education or a second chance.
Our work spans welfare investigations, rehabilitation, rehoming, owner education and rural outreach. The common thread is simple: practical action that improves the well-being and dignity of equines, while helping the people who care for and depend on them build stronger knowledge and skills.

The Outreach Programme combines direct equine care with education and community participation.
Depending on need and available services, support can include farrier, dental and veterinary welfare, deworming, vaccinations, feeding and harness guidance, wound management and workshops. Just as importantly, owners are shown how everyday decisions can improve comfort, health and working life.
By involving and using members of local communities in practical work where appropriate, the programme also helps build local capability around the animals it serves. That turns a welfare visit into something with a better chance of lasting.
HHCU AMBASSADORSBe their voice. Make a difference.
HHCU is growing a team of volunteer ambassadors, predominantly teenagers, to help champion equines in need.
You do not need to be a rider. Ambassadors can help represent HHCU at equine and suitable non-equine events, raise awareness, share information and support fundraising.
