Frequently Asked Questions
Helpful information for supporters, adopters, equine owners and members of the public.
Common questions about the Unit.
How can I make a donation?
You can currently make a monthly donation through the Unit's electronic mandate or a once-off donation through its online payment link. Both options are available on the Donate page.
Why is monthly giving important?
Equine welfare costs continue every day. Regular support provides a more predictable foundation for care, treatment, rehabilitation, outreach, inspections and other ongoing work.
How do I report a horse or donkey welfare concern?
The Unit investigates reports of alleged cruelty and neglect. If you are concerned about a horse or donkey, please contact the Unit with clear information about the animal, its location and the nature of the concern.
Can I adopt or foster a horse or donkey?
The Unit rehomes suitable equines under welfare requirements that include assessment of potential homes and ongoing monitoring. Contact the Unit for current animals and the latest application process.
What happens during Outreach?
Depending on needs and available professionals, Outreach may include farrier, dental and veterinary welfare services, deworming, vaccinations, wound management, feeding and harness guidance, owner education and practical community involvement.
Can my company support the Unit?
Yes. Corporate support can include sponsorship, fundraising, practical resources or support aligned with current welfare and outreach needs. Contact the Unit to discuss suitable opportunities.
Can I donate tack or equipment?
The Unit accepts suitable pre-loved tack and equipment. Items may be used to help working equines or support fundraising through the Tack Shop, depending on need and suitability.
